Pillo stays loaded and ready, shapes your words the way you said them, and gets a dark mode, a dashboard, and a Transcripts tab of its own.
Ready when you are
- The speech model stays loaded. Pillo used to unload it to be polite about memory, and reloading could take half a minute — so coming back to your Mac and wanting to dictate meant waiting. Staying loaded costs about 30 MB, and Pillo is ready the moment you press the key.
- Nothing gets thrown away while you wait. If the model is still starting up, Pillo waits for it instead of giving up on a timer and discarding what you said.
- When it genuinely does need a moment — after a macOS update — it says so, and says how long, instead of a spinner that reads like a hang.
Formatting
- Long dictations get paragraphs. Blank lines appear where you actually stopped — never mid-thought, and only in dictations long enough to need it.
- Lists become lists. Announce one ("three things: …") and Pillo writes bullets. Greetings and sign-offs get their own lines.
- German capitalisation is fixed. Long German dictations could come back with whole stretches in lowercase — that was the speech model drifting to English at chunk boundaries. Pillo now picks those boundaries deliberately.
- Optional clean-up: remove stumbles, fix self-corrections ("at 3, no wait, at 4"), group large numbers. All off by default — they change your words, so you choose.
Apple Intelligence (beta)
- Punctuation by Apple Intelligence, opt-in. On macOS 26, Pillo can hand your transcript to Apple's on-device model to add the commas you didn't dictate. It cannot change your words — Pillo checks every one and puts back anything the model touched. Off by default; it costs a few seconds.
Preview
- Dictation Preview shows your words while you speak, formatted the way they will be pasted — with a size setting for the box.
- Preview and paste now come from one transcription instead of two, so they agree with each other, and long dictations finish about twice as fast.
A new look
- Dark mode, and an Appearance setting you choose by looking at it.
- A real dashboard — your week, your pace, and what needs attention.
- Transcripts have their own tab, with detail views and search.
- The pill arrives and leaves instead of blinking in and out, and the waveform now belongs to your microphone rather than the model.
- Rebuilt onboarding: one key taught properly, in English or German.
Your data
- Delete Data in Settings: remove transcripts, or everything Pillo has ever stored. Deliberately hard to do by accident.
- Everything still happens on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded.
Also fixed
- Your clipboard is restored properly after a dictation — including images and files.
- Pillo no longer capitalises mid-sentence when your cursor sits inside a line, and adds a space when it is parked against a word.
- Names you correct are learned from your edits.
